He was a member of the Endurance 1914 16 antarctic expedition of Ernest Shackleton. In 1915 the ship became trapped in pack ice and eventually sank, stranding the crew on Elephant Island. Worsley achieved lasting fame by navigating a small boat to the whaling station on South Georgia, across 800 miles of antarctic seas,
